Gadsby was a chorister at St. Paul’s Cathedral (1849–58), and organist at St. Peter’s, Brockley, until 1884, when he succeeded John Hullah at Queen’s College, Harley Street, London.
In 1880, he became a professor at the Guildhall School of Music, London.
