Born: May 24, 1944, San Angelo, Texas.
Hanks was educated at Baylor University, Waco, Texas (BA), and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas (MDiv). He also received honorary doctorates from California Baptist University, Riverside, California, and Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar, Missouri.
He worked in the evangelism field most of his adult life, receiving the Stella Ross award for evangelism, working with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, and founding the International Evangelism Association of Fort Worth, Texas, and Operation Multiplication.
