Biography

Horace was the hus­band of Jane Shel­don.

He was as­so­ci­at­ed with Ben­nett, Back­us, and Haw­ley and oth­er book sell­ers in Uti­ca, New York.

He be­came sec­re­tary of the Aet­na In­sur­ance Com­pa­ny in Uti­ca in 1852, and moved to Hart­ford, Con­nec­ti­cut, short­ly there­af­ter.

In 1856, he moved to Bur­ling­ton, Io­wa, where he ran a mu­sic and book store, and an in­sur­ance agen­cy.

He was list­ed in the Bur­ling­ton ci­ty di­rec­to­ry as late as 1872. Bur­rage notes his health be­came im­paired that year, and he moved to south­west­ern Wis­con­sin.

By 1886, he was liv­ing in Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois.
