Biography

Roger was the son of Will­iam Gran­ville Hick­man, and hus­band of Irene Tal­ley.

He moved to In­de­pen­dence, Mis­sou­ri, at age 16, and stu­died mu­sic with in­struc­tors in Kan­sas Ci­ty.

He came to Christ at age 20, and at­tend­ed the Moo­dy Bi­ble In­sti­tute in Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois, where he met his wife. They served in the evan­gel­ism field to­ge­ther un­til her death in 1942.

Roger went on to serve as mu­sic and Chris­tian edu­ca­tion di­rect­or at church­es in Lou­isi­ana and Flo­ri­da. He head­ed the Mu­sic De­part­ment at the Bap­tist Bi­ble In­sti­tute in Lake­land, Flo­ri­da (1949–53), and wrote over 100 Gos­pel songs.

Works

He and Ar­thur Mc­Kee comp­iled the first vol­ume of Tab­er­na­cle Hymns in 1916.
