Biography

Holden was edu­cat­ed at Li­ver­pool Col­lege and Cor­pus Chris­ti Col­lege, Cam­bridge (BA 1899, MA 1902).

Ordained to the cu­ra­cy of Wal­cot in 1899, he be­came in 1901 a Mis­sion Preach­er in con­nect­ion with the Pa­ro­chi­al Mis­sion­ary So­ci­ety. In 1905 he be­came vi­car of St. Paul’s, Port­man Square, Lon­don.

He was chair­man of the Kes­wick Con­ven­tion (1925–29), and vis­it­ed Chi­na as a de­pu­ta­tion in 1904. Hol­den and his wife had tick­ets to sail from South­amp­ton on the RMS Ti­ta­nic in 1912, but can­celed their tra­vel plans when his wife be­came ill, spar­ing them a wa­tery grave.
