Biography

Will was the son of John Will­iam Hough­ton and Car­rie Maude Grant of No­va Sco­tia. He mar­ried twice: to Ade­laide Franks (1914) and, af­ter her death, to Eli­za­beth An­drews (1918).

He at­tend­ed the Pen­te­cos­tal Col­le­gi­ate In­sti­tute (now East­ern Na­za­rene Col­lege) in North Sci­tu­a­te, Rhode Is­land. He re­ceived an hon­or­ary Doc­tor of Di­vi­ni­ty from Whea­ton Col­lege in 1931. Bob Jones Uni­ver­si­ty award­ed him a Doc­tor of Law de­gree in 1942.

Houghton served pas­tor­ates in Can­ton, Penn­syl­van­ia (1915); New Beth­le­hem, Penn­syl­van­ia (1918); Nor­ris­town, Penn­syl­van­ia (1920); At­lan­ta, Geor­gia (1925–28); and Man­hat­tan, New York (1930–34).

He was pre­si­dent of Moo­dy Bi­ble In­sti­tute, Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois (1934–47).
