Biography

Theodore was the son of William Kitch­ing and Lou­isa Wil­mot, hus­band of Jane Cran­shaw, and fa­ther of Wil­fred Kitch­ing, who be­came the 7th Gen­er­al of the Sal­va­tion Ar­my (SA) in 1954.

Theodore joined the SA in 1882 at a meet­ing in Bris­tol, Eng­land.

He be­came an SA of­fic­er in 18828, and served in Bri­tain, France, Swit­zer­land, and Bel­gium.

He was sec­re­ta­ry to SA found­er Will­iam Booth (1909–12), to SA Ge­ne­ral Bram­well Booth (1912–14), SA In­ter­na­tion­al Sec­re­ta­ry for Eur­ope (1914–16), SA Ed­it­or-in-Chief (1921–29), and head of the SA Li­ter­ary De­part­ment and Trans­la­tions Bu­reau.

Kitching was ap­point­ed a Com­mand­er of the Brit­ish Em­pire (CBE) in 1920.
