Biography

George was the son of John H. Kurz­en­kna­be and Su­san Shaf­fer, and bro­ther of John E. Kurz­en­knabe and Ha­rry Kurz­en­knabe. He mar­ried twice: to Es­telle Cook and Em­ma Schroth (cir­ca 1906).

In March 1890, he was ini­ti­at­ed in­to the Ma­sons in Ro­bert Burns Lodge num­ber 464, Har­ris­burg, Penn­syl­van­ia.

He held a num­ber of Ma­son­ic po­si­tions, in­clud­ing a 1913 ap­point­ment as or­ga­nist of the Ge­ne­ral Grand Chap­ter. He wrote mu­sic­al set­tings for Ma­son­ic ini­ti­ations for Lodge, Chap­ter, Coun­cil, Com­man­de­ry, Shrine, Scot­tish Rite, and East­ern Star.

He was also con­nect­ed with the rail­way mail service.
