John was the son of John H. Kurz­en­kna­be and Su­san Shaf­fer, bro­ther of George Kurz­en­knabe and Ha­rry Kurz­en­knabe., and hus­band of Jea­nette Kurz­en­knabe.

As of 1930, he was liv­ing in Cook Coun­ty, Il­li­nois.
