Christian was the son of Benjamin Latrobe, and father of Peter Latrobe.
Remembered as a clergyman, musician, and composer, he was educated in England, and at the Moravian Brethren’s College, Niesky, Silesia.
Taking orders in the Moravian church, he became in 1784 secretary of their Society for the Furtherance of the Gospel, and in 1795, secretary to the Unity of the Brethren in England.
He wrote a number of works for the Moravian church, and edited the Selection of Sacred Music (six volumes, 1806–26).
