Henry was the son of Henry D. Lowing & Nancy Jane Pierce, and husband of Eva Belle Dunbar (married 1897).
He was educated at the State Normal School in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania Institute for the Blind in Philadelphia.
He began composing music in 1892, and taught violin and directed church choirs. Eva sang alto and accompanied him on piano and organ.
As of 1904, he was living in Linesville, Pennsylvania.
