Somerset was the son of James Corry Lowry, Q. C., of Rockdale, Duncannon, Ireland.
He was educated at Repton School and Trinity Hall, Cambridge (BA 1877, MA 1880).
Ordained a deacon in 1879 and priest in 1880, he served as curate of Doncaster; vicar of North Holmwood, Surrey (1891); curate of St. Augustin’s, Bournemouth (1900); rector of Wonston (1911); and vicar of St. Bartholomew, Southsea (1914–19).
Upon retirement, he moved to Bournemouth.
