Merrill was this com­pos­er’s maid­en name.

We sus­pect she is Lu­cia Gris­wold Mer­rill (1852–1915), who is bur­ied in An­do­ver, Mas­sa­chu­setts. Her tune Oa­hu ap­peared in a song book pub­lished in near­by Bos­ton in 1876 by James Mur­ray.

Murray was born in An­do­ver, and the Town of An­do­ver’s An­nu­al Report for 1880 re­port­ed that Mur­ray and Mer­rill were both teach­ing in An­do­ver at that time.
