Biography

Henry was the son of John Mills, and hus­band of Ma­ria Moore Bark­ins.

He was edu­cat­ed at New Jer­sey Col­lege, Prince­ton, where he gra­du­at­ed in 1802.

After teach­ing for some time in Mor­ris­town and else­where, he was or­dained pas­tor of the Pres­by­ter­ian Church in Wood­bridge, New Jer­sey, in 1816.

After the op­en­ing of New York’s Au­burn Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry in 1821, he was ap­point­ed Pro­fess­or of Bib­li­cal Cri­ti­cism and Ori­ent­al Lang­uag­es there, re­tir­ing in 1854.
