Born: Ap­ril 5, 1830, Les­ma­ha­gow, Lan­ark­shire, Scot­land.

Died: June 26, 1906, while prin­ci­pal of Glad­stone Ave­nue Pub­lic School, To­ron­to, Ca­na­da. The next morn­ing the stu­dents wore ma­ple leaves to school.

Buried: Mount Plea­sant Ce­me­te­ry, To­ron­to, Ca­na­da.

Muir moved to Ca­na­da as a child, and earned his BA de­gree from Queen’s Uni­ver­si­ty, King­ston, On­tar­io. He then taught school, main­ly in the To­ron­to area.
