Biography

Frederick was the son of Le­on­ard Ogil­by and Eli­za­beth Dar­ley, and hus­band of Eli­za­beth Ma­ry Ross.

He ar­rived in New York in 1816 on the ship Dib­by & Eli­za with his mo­ther and his bro­thers John and Ro­bert.

He was edu­cat­ed at Rut­gers Col­lege and the Ge­ne­ral Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry in New York Ci­ty.

He served as dea­con at Grace Church, Broad­way and Rec­tor Street, New York Ci­ty; dea­con in Bur­ling­ton, New Je­rsey, un­der Bi­shop George W. Doane; rec­tor at the Church of the As­cen­sion, Phi­la­del­phia, Penn­syl­van­ia, un­til 1855; then as­sist­ant rec­tor at Tri­ni­ty Epis­co­pal church on Wall Street, New York Ci­ty, with which he was as­so­ci­at­ed some 23 years.

While in Phi­la­del­phia, he ed­it­ed the re­li­gious pe­ri­od­ic­al Ban­ner of the Cross.
