Introduction

Born: May 1, 1840, Brad­ford, Penn­syl­van­ia.

Died: Apr­il 30, 1916, Wash­ing­ton, Penn­syl­van­ia, at the home of Mrs. Eliz­abeth Driv­er, 29th North Main Street.

Buried: Al­le­ghe­ny Ce­me­te­ry, Pitts­burgh, Penn­syl­van­ia. Song­writ­er Ste­phen Fos­ter lies on­ly a few hun­dred feet away.

Biography

During the Am­er­ican civ­il war, he was a col­or bear­er in Com­pa­ny C, 85th Penn­syl­van­ia Vol­un­teer Re­gi­ment. He was wound­ed on Mor­ris Is­land, South Ca­ro­li­na, in 1863.

After the war, he be­came a Meth­od­ist Epis­co­pal min­is­ter. He was ad­mit­ted to the Pitts­burgh, Con­fer­ence in 1866, with his first charge at Greensboro, Penn­syl­van­ia.
