Died: April 30, 1916, Washington, Pennsylvania, at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Driver, 29th North Main Street.
Buried: Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Songwriter Stephen Foster lies only a few hundred feet away.
During the American civil war, he was a color bearer in Company C, 85th Pennsylvania Volunteer Regiment. He was wounded on Morris Island, South Carolina, in 1863.
After the war, he became a Methodist Episcopal minister. He was admitted to the Pittsburgh, Conference in 1866, with his first charge at Greensboro, Pennsylvania.
