Died: October 27, 1674, Saurbær, Hvalfjörður, Iceland, of leprosy.
Hallgrímur grew up in Hólar, where his father was a bell ringer, and his cousin Guðbrandur Þorláksson was resident bishop.
As a young man, he traveled to Europe, and eventually attended the seminary at the Vor Frue Kirke (Church of Our Lady) in Copenhagen.
Seven years after returning to Iceland, Hallgrímur was appointed minister at Hvalsnes. He showed himself a skillful preacher. and in 1651, he was reassigned to Saurbær in Hvalfjörður, serving there the rest of his life.
