Biography

William was the son of Will­iam Watk­ins Reid, Sr., and Ed­ith Fowl­er.

He was edu­cat­ed at Ob­er­lin Col­lege (BA), Ob­er­lin, Ohio, and Yale Di­vi­ni­ty School (BDiv), New Ha­ven, Con­nec­ti­cut.

He served as a me­dic in World War II, and spent eight months as a pri­son­er of war in Ger­ma­ny.

When he re­turned to Am­eri­ca, he pas­tored Me­tho­dist church­es in North Da­ko­ta and Wilkes-Barre, Penn­syl­van­ia. In 1978, he be­came a Dis­trict Su­per­in­tend­ent for the Unit­ed Me­tho­dist Church.

He served on the Wilkes-Barre Ci­ty Coun­cil (1972–76), and as Wy­om­ing Coun­ty Comm­is­sion­er (1992–2000).

He was ac­tive in the Hymn So­ci­ety of the Unit­ed States and Ca­na­da.
