Biography

Reissiger at­tend­ed the Tho­mas­schule in Leip­zig, Ger­ma­ny, and stu­died mu­sic un­der Jo­hann Schicht, Sa­li­eri (1821), and Win­ter (1822). He also stu­died theo­lo­gy at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Leip­zig.

In 1824, his first op­era, Di­done Ab­ban­do­na­ta, op­ened in Dres­den. He con­tin­ued to stu­dy mu­sic in France and Italy, then moved to Berlin in 1825.

In his life­time, he wrote over 60 songs, 9 op­eras, 1 ora­to­rio, 9 La­tin mass­es, and 4 Ger­man mass­es.
