Francis was the son of John Robertshaw and Elizabeth Knott, and husband of Emile Richardson-Cooke (married July 16, 1870, Walthamstow Parish Church, London, England).
He taught music in England and America, and was a professor at the Chicago School of Music.
He founded the St. Martin’s choir, directed the Apollo Club, and belonged to the Borrowed Time Club in Oak Park, Illinois.
