Carl was the husband of Agata Rosenius (married 1843, Umeå, Västerbotten, Sweden).
Son of a rector, he was never ordained, but was an influential Lutheran preacher.
He edited The Pietist (1842–62), and made extensive contributions thereto. Oscar Ahnfelt had a large role in popularizing Rosenius’ hymns.
