Died: Au­gust 18, 1913, at his ho­me Pres­ton­bu­ry, on West­more­land Road, Brom­ley, Kent, Eng­land.

Biography

George was the son of Tho­mas Smith Rowe and Ma­ry Wal­ton, and hus­band of Jane Van­ner (mar­ried June 1, 1859).

Educated at Dids­bu­ry Col­lege, he en­tered the Wes­ley­an min­is­try in 1853. He held ap­point­ments in Ip­swich, Hull, South­port, Ed­in­burgh, Lon­don, and else­where. He served as Gov­er­nor of Head­ing­ley Col­lege, Leeds, 1888–1904.

He wrote most of his hymns for Sun­day school an­ni­ver­sa­ries.
