Charles was the son of William Henry Scoville and Mary Dickerhoof.
He graduated from Tri-State College, Angola, Indiana (BS 1892) and Hiram College, Hiram, Ohio (AB 1897, AM 1898).
He then went into the evangelism field, but also helped found the Metropolitan Church in Chicago, Illinois.
He held evangelism campaigns overseas in 1900, in Australia in 1912, and throughout America.
