Born: September 24, 1868, Manchester, New Hampshire.
Minot was the son of Langdon Simons and Sarah Frances Shepard, and husband of Helen Louise Savage (married 1894).
He was educated at Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, New Hampshire; Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts (BA 1891, BST 1894); and Meadville Theological School, Meadville, Pennsylvania (now Meadville Lombard Theological School, Chicago, Illinois) (DD 1921).
Ordained a Unitarian minister in 1895, he served pastorates in Billerica, Massachusetts; Cleveland, Ohio; and New York City.
He was also a preacher at Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio (1904–19), and a member of the board of preachers at Harvard University (1912–13).
