Staniforth was the son of Thomas Worsley Staniforth, a knife grinder, and Cordelia Worsley, and husband of Sarah Susannah Nicholson Denton (married 1898).
He was organist and choirmaster at St. Paul’s Church, Brighton, and later organist and music master at Highgate School, London.
In 1904–05, he contributed articles on music and church history to the Sheffield Telegraph.
