Biography

James was the hus­band of Mat­tie A. Gard­ner.

He was part­ner with W. P. Gard­ner in the Stan­ley-Gard­ner Com­pa­ny, a Gos­pel mu­sic pub­lish­er in Sal­til­lo, Mis­sis­sip­pi. They is­sued se­ver­al pa­per­back hym­nals, most with­out dates, and al­so Ru­di­ments of Mu­sic.

In ad­di­tion, Stan­ley ran a mu­sic school in Sal­til­lo, and was a Jus­tice of the Peace.
