Biography

Waugh was edu­cat­ed for the Con­gre­ga­tion­al min­is­try at Aire­dale Col­lege, Brad­ford.

He held pas­tor­ates at New­bu­ry, Berk­shire, Green­wich, and New South­gate, and for sev­er­al years, ed­it­ed The Sun­day Ma­ga­zine, where his hymns ap­peared from time to time.

In ad­di­tion to writ­ing hymns, Waugh is re­mem­bered as a so­cial re­form­er, and a found­er of the Na­tion­al So­ci­ety for the Pre­ven­tion of Cru­el­ty to Child­ren in the late 19th Cen­tu­ry.
