Biography

David was the son of Al­vin Way and Lou­isa Slay­ton, and hus­band of Ma­ril­da Eli­za Ril­la Dun­ton.

During the Am­eri­can ci­vil war, he served in Com­pa­ny F, 28th Io­wa In­fan­try. He caught a se­vere case of mea­sles, and aft­er los­ing 75 pounds, he was me­di­cal­ly dis­charged in Vicks­burg, Mis­sis­sip­pi, in June 1863.

He taught hund­reds of vio­lin stu­dents, and played first vio­lin with the Grin­nell Col­lege Or­ches­tra.

He ap­par­ent­ly owned a mu­sic store in Sy­ra­cuse, Ne­bras­ka, as of 1889.
