George was the son of merchant and ship owner Sir Robert Wigram, and husband of Catherine Maria Parnell. His brother James became a Vice-Chancellor, and his brother Joseph was Bishop of Rochester.
George was associated with the Plymouth Brethren, and was a friend of John Nelson Darby.
