Biography

Wortman was the son of De­nis Wort­man and Eli­za­beth Brin­ker­hoff Ra­pal­je.

He gra­du­at­ed from Am­herst Col­lege (AB 1857) and the New Bruns­wick Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry, New Jer­sey (1860).

He held pas­tor­ates in Brook­lyn, New York; Phi­la­del­phia, Penn­syl­van­ia; Sche­nec­ta­dy, New York; Fort Plain, New York; and for ma­ny years at the Re­formed Church in Sau­ger­ties, New York.

He al­so served as sec­re­ta­ry of min­is­ter­i­al re­lief and pre­si­dent of the Ge­ne­ral Sy­nod of the Dutch Re­formed Church (1901).
