Glory to God who reigns above,
Who dwells in light, whose name is love;
Ye saints and angels, if ye can,
Declare the love of God to man.
O what can more His love commend
His dear, His only Son to send!
That man, condemned to die, might live,
And God be glorious to forgive.
Messiah’s come—with joy behold
The days by prophets long foretold;
Judah, thy royal scepter’s broke,
And time still proves what Jacob spoke.
Daniel, thy weeks are all expired,
The time prophetic seals required,
Cut off for sins, but not His own,
Thy prince, Messiah, did atone.
Thy famous temple, Solomon,
Is by the latter far outshone;
It wanted not thy glittering store,
Messiah’s presence graced it more.
We see the prophecies fulfilled
In Jesus, that most wondrous Child;
His birth, His life, His death combine
To prove His character divine.
Jesus, Thy Gospel firmly stands
A blessing to these favored lands;
No infidel shall be our dread
Since Thou art risen from the dead.
