Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.
Psalm 131:1
Words: From The Psalter (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: United Presbyterian Board of Publication, 1912), number 366.
Music: Olmutz arranged from a Gregorian chant by Lowell Mason, 1824 (🔊 pdf nwc).
Not haughty is my heart,
Not lofty is my pride;
I do not seek to know the things
God’s wisdom hath denied.
With childlike trust, O Lord,
In Thee I calmly rest,
Contented as a little child
Upon its mother’s breast.
Ye people of the Lord,
In Him alone confide;
From this time forth and evermore
His wisdom be your guide.
