O what a con­quest Je­sus won,
When, on the fa­tal tree,
His great aton­ing work was done,
And earth from guilt set free!

’Tis fin­ished, He ex­ult­ing cried,
The migh­ty Slay­er slain;
The wrath of God is pa­ci­fied,
And man may hope again.

O rich re­ward for ev­ery groan!
O vic­to­ry com­plete!
To call a ran­somed world His own,
And hail it to His feet.

Yes, the great work shall on­ward go;
The sure de­cree is past:
The na­tions to their Lord shall flow,
And all be Christ’s at last.

O hast­en, Lord, those bless­èd times!
Lead all Thy wan­der­ers home!
Convert this world of woe and crimes,
And bid Thy king­dom come!
