Lyrics

Take thy pastor’s prayer and blessing
Ere thou goest from his care;
Peace with God in Christ possessing,
May thy soul His mercies share.

Bear in mind the promise spoken
At the altar of the Lord;
Tremble lest the vow be broken,
And sin’s wages thy reward.

Joy and love and hope o’erflowing
Shall thy happy portion be,
If thy soul with fervor glowing
Cleave to Jesus steadfastly.

Sorrow’s path may lie before thee;
But if Christ be all thy stay,
Thou art passing on to glory,
And His grace will smooth the way.

Let thy prayers be daily offered
With a strong adoring faith,
In the name of Him who suffered
To redeem thy soul from death.

May each sun that o’er thee shineth
See thee feeding on His word,
Till at last when strength declineth,
Thou art meet to join thy Lord.

And, when life’s last hour is ending,
May thy loved ones see thee blest;
Unto Christ thy soul commending
As it gains its heav’nly rest.
