Biography

Jonathan was the son of Hen­ry M. At­chin­son and An­nah Burtch, and hus­band of Har­ri­et Ma­ry Gay­lord.

An Am­er­ican ci­vil war vet­er­an, he was or­dained a Me­tho­dist min­is­ter Sep­tem­ber 6, 1874, and served in New York and Mi­chi­gan.

He was a strong ad­vo­cate of Sun­day Schools, writ­ing ma­ny hymns and songs for that min­is­try.
