Wendy was the son of Rufus M. (Cajer) Bagwell and Arza (Arzie) Emmerline Vaughn.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marines, and was awarded a Bronze Star for bravery.
In 1953, he, Geraldine Morrison and Georgia Jones formed the Sunliters singing group. Over the next four decades, the group released 60 recordings.
Wendy was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 1997, and the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2001.
