Addison was the son of Mathias Stevens Bowser and Elizabeth Booher, and husband of Ella Zelima Stebbins.
He attended public school in Armstrong County, and graduated from Reed Institute (1884); Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania (1888); and Crozer Seminary, Upland, Pennsylvania (1890).
He subsequently served as pastor of the Third Baptist Church, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (three years); the First Baptist Church at Danville, Pennsylvania (nine years); and the First Baptist Church, Millville, New Jersey (three years).
On July 4, 1903, he became pastor of the First Baptist Church in Crafton, Pennsylvania.
