Biography

De Bèze was the son of Pierre de Bèze, bailiff of Vézelay, and Marie Bourdelot, and husband of Claudine Denosse.

A Calvinist Protestant theologian, reformer and scholar, he played an important role in the Protestant Reformation.

He was a disciple of John Calvin, lived most of his life in Geneva, and succeeded Calvin as the spiritual leader of the Republic of Geneva.

Thirty-four of his psalm translations appeared in the 1551 Genevan Psalter, and six more in later editions.
