De Brébeuf became a Jesuit in 1617, and in 1625 founded a mission at Ihonatiria (location uncertain; varied sources give it as on Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, or on the southeastern edge of Lake Michigan).
Despite fierce opposition from some Indians, he continued to preach, and made a number of Indian converts.
