As a youth, Evans worked in a ribbon factory.
About 1778, he joined the congregation at Coventry where George Burder was pastor.
Evans started preaching at Foleshill in 1782, and in 1795 he began his ministry there, which lasted until his death.
He was ordained April 4, 1797. Two biographical notices of him appeared in the Evangelical Magazine (October 1809 and March 1847).
