Biography

A pi­an­ist, com­pos­er and con­duct­or, Ru­bin­stein found­ed the Saint Pe­ters­burg Con­ser­va­to­ry. He is al­so re­mem­bered as the com­po­si­tion teach­er of Py­otr Tchai­kov­sky.

His eld­er bro­ther, Ni­ko­lai Ru­bin­stein, found­ed the Mos­cow Con­ser­va­to­ry.

Anton Rubinstein was well known for his ser­ies of his­to­ri­cal re­cit­als—se­ven con­se­cu­tive con­certs co­ver­ing the his­to­ry of pi­ano mu­sic. He played this ser­ies through­out Rus­sia, East­ern Eur­ope and Am­eri­ca.
