Störl grew up in Gaildorf, about five miles south of Schwäbisch Hall. He was a chorister in the Stuttgart Hofkapelle (Court Chapel) from about age 12 to age 20.
He studied under Pachelbel in Nuremberg, Germany (1697), and in Vienna under Fischer (1701).
After travel to Venice, Florence and Rome, he returned to Stuttgart and became the Hofkapellmeister (1704) and Stiftsorganist (1707).
