Biography

Berthold was the son of or­gan­ist Bar­the­le­my Tours.

He at­tend­ed con­ser­va­tori­es in Brus­sels and Leip­zig, and moved to Lon­don in 1861, play­ing vio­lin and teach­ing. The next year, he be­came the or­gan­ist at the Swiss Church in Hol­born.

Later, he worked for No­vel­lo as an ed­it­or and ar­ran­ger.
