Buried: His bu­ri­al place is un­known, but his le­ga­cy is com­me­mo­rat­ed with a me­mor­ial win­dow in Glou­ces­ter Ca­thed­ral, de­signed by stained-glass ar­tist Ve­ro­nica Whall in 1928.

Biography

Brewer start­ed his mu­sic­al ca­reer as a cho­ris­ter in Glou­ces­ter Ca­thed­ral, where he was a pu­pil of or­gan­ist Charles Lloyd. He at­tend­ed the Ca­thed­ral School and Exe­ter Col­lege, Ox­ford.

He served as or­gan­ist at St. Ca­the­rine’s and St. Ma­ry de Crypt, Glou­ces­ter (1881), and at St. Giles’ Church, Ox­ford (1882).

He re­ceived the first or­gan scho­lar­ship to the Roy­al Col­lege of Mu­sic (1883), and was or­gan schol­ar at Exe­ter (1883).

He lat­er played the or­gan at Bri­stol Ca­thed­ral (1885); St. Mi­chael’s, Cov­en­try (1886); Ton­bridge School (1892), and Glou­ces­ter Ca­thed­ral (1896).

He was knight­ed in 1926.
